Update 9.7.2010

Eric was in good spirits after Tony's big victory at Atlanta this weekend. But yesterday morning Eric had a temperature of 103°.  Then we found out that his right lung collapsed once again. Eric had a few visitors yesterday. The hospital is bringing in a specialist for his lungs today to figure out why his lungs are not draining. Once his lungs are under control they will send him to the rehab hospital here in Indy. Irish would like to thank everyone for all of their thoughts and prayers.

  3. I know this is a difficult time for you and your family... I just want you to know that, as a healthy young man, you have great potential for healing and recovering from your injury. My son, Dylan Borkowski #327, who just turned 18 also, fractured 2 cervical vertebra last spring while practicing at a friends' track. His neurosurgeon was amazed at how fast he healed, he had his halo removed in just 2 months. He was fully healed in no time, and has no after-effects whatsoever from his injury. The Dr. says it's because he is young and healthy, as you are.

Dylan has stopped racing and has been advised not to ride a motorcycle any more. But, you know what?, there is so much more to do out there in this wide world. However this turns out for you, just know that you are very LUCKY, and it is not the end of your life, just a new beginning!

    Sincerely,

    Melany Borkowski

  4. Hi Eric,

I work with your dad at Hoosier Racing Tire, but I have known the Saunders and Ecker families practically my whole life. You have an amazing support group with them and all your extended racing family and friends. I have cried reading the comments on your blog, not because of sadness, but because they are so touching, loving, uplifting, encouraging and full of hope. The last time I talked to your dad, he apologized that I might be having to field more calls than usual at work for people asking about you. It's the very least I could do, and I wish I could do more. I will continue to check in and read about your progress. Take care & God bless!

  12. Eric,
Our hearts were just shattered when we heard about your accident. Not a day has passed that Donny and I aren't thinking about and praying for you and your family. The outpouring of love and support is amazing and wonderful. We know you are keeping a positive outlook and that you are a fighter! For years Donny has bugged me to put mx decals on my car and I would never do it....until NOW! I'll plaster my van with support stickers for you if I have to!
Stickers on, wristbands on, t-shirts coming, and we're eating dill pickles in your honor!

Remember: A SETBACK IS JUST A SETUP FOR A COMEBACK! YOU CAN DO IT!

    We love you!

Stay strong! Be like your old man. Not quite as GRUMPY though. If you are 1/2 as tough as he is you will be well in no time at all. We in circle track racing are all thinking about you and your family. Hope to meet you when you get back to your home. Good luck, your dad has told me that you are a winner and you can show every one you are just that.

    JUST DO IT!!!!!

  18. Hi Eric,
You don't know me but you know my son, Casey. I worked with your Dad at Hoosier Tire and he's one of the "good guys". Sometimes life seems so unfair and dont understand why things happen the way they do. But trust me, God has a good reason and it's usually a better one than before. I've had things happen to me several times and it turned out for the better. Keep your chin up because you'll find out to some day why and then you will smile big!! God be with you always.
