The last blog of 2010. Eric is off this morning, headed to Indy for appts. with some of his Drs. We hope all goes well. While Eric continues to improve please continue to pray for him and his family. And while we take a look back at how the last year's events have effected Erics life, as well as his families, it's because of all of you who have commented and watched this blog , that have changed and touched their lives and many others, as well. A calender has been created for Erics family and many of your post have been quoted on the calender so that they are reminded daily how much you love them, care about them and how much of a inspiration you are to them. Some of you we know, some of you we don't and will probably never meet ,but your words have impacted our hearts as we poured our grief and tragady to you. You lifted us when we were at our weakest, you carried us when we could no longer feel there was a reason to go on, YOU are reason we are where we are today, truly blessed. So as this year comes to an end, We pray God will bless your lives as much as your prays have blessed ours. God is Good all the time and ALL the time God is good. THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU BECAUSE YOU BELIEVED THAT ERIC COULD AND HE WOULD. He will and he can.
May next year be blessed by God and everything he has planned in all our lives.

  4. Eric, you are an inspiration! I love your positive attitude even though I'm sure at times it's not easy. I have a 14 year old son with a SCI. He's an inspiration to me as well. Keep looking to God for your strength and you'll go far! There is a bright future ahead of you!

  8. The best of luck to Eric in his plateaued recovery period. I missed what level his injury is at. I suspect he is a C4/5 due to his limited hand and wrist strength.

My wife suffered a C5 injury back in '06. Now, while every SCI is different, one of the things we did with her were hand massages. She regained quite a bit of hand strength and can eat, drink, use a computer etc. Not full strength, but good enough to go to work 4 days a week(office).

In the ICU and through out her recovery she craved hand and arm massages. Some of the doctors seem to think the constant external stimulation may have contributed to regained function on those transient median areas. Just a passing thought that might help Eric continue to regain some function.

I'd also highly encourage you to join the growing voice of Americans calling for research and support of STEM CELL therapy for SCI and almost any other illness. The future impact of stem cell can not be underestimated, and is truly the ONLY way Eric, or my wife Dena will ever walk, run or ride again. Only those of us directly affected by SCI can understand how devastating the injury can be to the injured and those close to them. You are only at the beginning of this race. It is a race that will never end until stem cell can return our lives that were so abruptly ripped from us. Pray if you must, but pray for the real miracle that is so close to our grasp...STEM CELL.

Best of luck Eric. Some day you will ride again. For your sake and mine I hope the miracle of stem cell comes to fruition. Hang in there!

    Sincerely,

    Steve Harris.
